William Smith, MD, PhD
William R. Smith, MD, PhD, is assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Smith’s research focuses on ethical, policy, implementation, and behavioral economics in psychiatry,​ especially in Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) for first-episode psychosis​. His current work includes trials collaborating with various NIMH Early Psychosis Network (EPINET) sites to develop incentive and behavioral economics-based interventions to help patients maintain engagement with care during and after CSC. He is co-director of the UNC Psychiatry Philosophy and Mental Health Program Research Instructor.
